About the Role

To deliver the School’s curriculum, develop and nurture students, and transmit a passion for the art form. Faculty may teach various levels, including adult open classes, and participate fully in the School's activities, such as faculty meetings, performances, and potentially summer sessions. This role involves teaching up to three levels, including beginning pointe work, with required evenings and Saturdays.

Responsibilities

Adhere to and support School and Association policies regarding disciplinary action, child health, and safety.
Structure and teach ballet classes following the School’s stated curriculum.
Provide level-appropriate technical instruction and mentor students in artistic, musical, and psychological demands for a ballet career.
Maintain proper discipline in the studio, including ballet class etiquette and dress code.
Attend faculty meetings and participate in continuing education activities.
Interact with faculty, staff, and pianists.
Attend performances, auditions, demonstrations, lectures, and other School-related events.
Record and report on student attendance.
Relay student concerns to the Director and School staff.
Monitor students’ progress and report issues to the Director.
Meet with parents and provide feedback and assistance.
Perform other duties as required or assigned by supervisor, potentially outside regular class schedule with notice.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years' experience teaching ballet to school-age children.
Commitment to the aims and objectives of San Francisco Ballet School.
Ability to provide kind, appropriate, and inspiring training in technique.
Ability to give level-appropriate combinations within the structure of the stated curriculum.
Ability to provide corrections to all students.
Ability to create an environment where students can learn from mistakes, coach students through difficulties, and provide ongoing feedback and encouragement.
Responsibility for the overall discipline of the class, including enforcing dress code and ensuring proper ballet etiquette.
Proactive and flexible approach to work.
Willingness to be involved in all areas of the School’s dance initiatives.
Ability to manage class and rehearsals in a professional manner.
Personable and well-presented, including wearing proper attire for teaching.
Maintain appropriate staff-student relationships and comply with the Conduct with Minors policy and other School/Association policies.
Communicate effectively with students, staff, colleagues, and parents.
Demonstrate diplomacy and tact in all interactions.
Build rapport and develop effective, collaborative relationships with colleagues, pianists, and staff.
Support and provide equal and fair treatment for all.
First aid and CPR qualification or willingness to attend training.
Demonstrate ballet movements, styles, musicality, and dynamics.
Able to physically correct and work with students.
Basic knowledge of MS Office products or willingness to undergo training for evaluations and attendance records.
