About the Role

As a Lab Scientist/Technical Specialist at Madison Health, you will be responsible for the day-to-day efficiency of the department when the Director is unavailable, ensuring that specimens are collected according to policy, tests are run and reported expeditiously, meeting all QA standards, policies and procedures. You will share in the workload of the specific section and assist in the development of coworker's technical skills.

Responsibilities

Performs specimen collection on patients across the age spectrum, obtaining blood and non-blood specimens for laboratory testing.
Verifies all lab orders and completes order entry in Laboratory Information System (LIS) and web based portal for Managed Care specimens.
Performs routine and special laboratory tests, calling critical results to healthcare providers.
Adheres to quality control policies and procedures, identifying and correcting problems that may affect test results.
Maintains clinical instrumentation, performing preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.
Performs specimen collection for Occupational Health, including Chain-of-Custody Urine Drug Screens, Breath Alcohol Tests, and Hair samples.
Coordinates training for new colleagues in specialty areas and oversees their progress.
Serves as a resource for technical information and assists with inventory and ordering of supplies.
Assists with department PI, Joint Commission, and CAP checklists.
Ensures specimens are collected according to policy.
Ensures tests are run and reported expeditiously, meeting all QA standards, policies, and procedures.
Shares in the workload of the specific section.
Assists in the development of coworker's technical skills.
Performs specimen processing, testing, and resulting in accordance with laboratory policy and procedure manual.
Performs quality control, maintenance, and calibrations for all analytical testing.
Reviews section policies and procedures.
Assists with proficiency assignments, entering proficiency results, and following up.
Provides feedback to supervisor regarding colleague performance in specific technical areas.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field.
American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification required.
