About the Role

Austin Commercial is seeking interns for its Construction Engineering Internship Program. This program offers hands-on, real-world experience on commercial construction projects, working alongside seasoned professionals. The program was ranked as one of the Top 100 Internship Programs of 2024.

Responsibilities

  • Processing submittals by reviewing, filing, and distributing them.
  • Sending RFIs to architects and engineers.
  • Maintaining concrete, rebar, RFI, and plan logs.
  • Resolving problems generated from plans and/or specifications.
  • Establishing control points and lines using field instruments.
  • Locating embeds in the slab and verifying their locations per approved shops.
  • Assisting in locating openings in the structure and establishing vertical control.
  • Locating other miscellaneous items in the field.
  • Documenting by updating and distributing construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and samples.
  • Aiding with quality control inspections utilizing specific software.
  • Verifying pre-pour checklists and checking proper formwork framing/shoring installation.
  • Participating in and aiding with weekly safety meetings, including writing minutes.
  • Leading project orientation and maintenance logs.
  • Assisting with maintaining project look-ahead schedules.
  • Assisting with trade contractor coordination and scheduling.
  • Verifying proper construction techniques per plans and specs and raising concerns.
  • Maintaining city inspection records and walking with Superintendent during inspections.
  • Performing other miscellaneous duties as defined by the Project Manager or Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Individuals hired as interns are classified as temporary employee owners.
  • Interns are not eligible for vacation pay or holiday pay.
  • Interns are expected to work a regular scheduled workweek.
