About the Role
The Market Data Manager is responsible for the operational, technological, and AI-driven engine of Maven's Market Data function. This role will deliver against Maven's Market Data strategy, focusing on AI-enabled vendor analytics, contract digestion, entitlement audit, and building the firm's data inventory and reporting infrastructure. The position requires commercial and operational expertise in market data, with a proven ability to use LLMs, automation, and Python to replace manual workflows. The role involves partnering with the Head of Vendor Strategy on commercial strategy and vendor negotiations, while owning the daily operations of the team. The successful candidate will be hands-on, possess strong commercial instinct, and demonstrate technical fluency.
Responsibilities
- Ownership of the AI and automation roadmap for the Market Data function, deciding what to build, buy, or outsource.
- Daily use of LLMs and AI tooling for vendor analysis, contract digestion, usage analytics, and entitlement audit, replacing manual workflows with AI-augmented equivalents.
- Use of internal tooling in Python for usage dashboards, automated entitlement reconciliations, and simple AI integrations.
- Automation of monthly reporting, exchange audit workflows, and other repetitive tasks within the Market Data function.
- Ownership of Market Data ingestion into Maven's central data team infrastructure for firmwide access and inventory management.
- Day-to-day ownership of vendor analytics, including usage, ROI, redundancy, and renewal forecasting.
- Support vendor negotiations, renewal strategy, and RFP processes with major data and exchange vendors.
- Build forecast and ROI models to optimize spend and inform future Opex planning.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization, vendor consolidation, and improved service levels.
- Evaluate and operationally assess alternative data sources to support discretionary and systematic strategies.
- Build-out and ownership of Maven's data catalogue and central inventory.
- Manage day-to-day Market Data operations across Europe, US, and Asia, including reporting, licensing, and audits.
- Onboard new quant and discretionary data sets, ensuring entitlements, governance, and inventory records are in place.
- Partner with the Vendor Strategy function on the cross-firm contract repository.
- Implement operational controls, documentation, and process improvements.
- Line management and mentorship of Maven's Data Licensing Administrator.
- Coordinate Market Data-related communication across Trading Desks, Technology, Legal, Compliance, and Finance.
- Ensure compliance with Market Data licensing obligations, regulatory requirements, and internal governance standards.
- Manage entitlements, access, and audit exposure across the Market Data vendor estate.
- Ensure appropriate controls and documentation are in place for Maven's data usage and interaction.
Requirements
- Between 4 and 8 years' experience in market data at a proprietary trading firm, hedge fund, exchange, data or technology vendor, or similar.
- Demonstrable track record of using AI and LLM tooling to multiply team throughput and replace manual workflows.
- Working proficiency in Python, with experience building lightweight internal tooling.
- Breadth across multiple data types (exchange, alternative, and fundamental).
- Commercial literacy in vendor negotiation, renewal strategy, and RFP discipline.
- Experience with market data inventory and management platforms or equivalent.
- Experience working across multiple regions, time zones, or jurisdictions is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of market data policy and licensing.
- Proficiency in Python, modern AI tooling (LLMs, Copilot-style assistants), and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
