About the Role
The Maintenance Technician supports the Plant Operations team by performing basic maintenance, repairs, and general upkeep of the facility. This role works under the direction of senior maintenance staff and helps ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Assist with basic repairs and maintenance of equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, carts, and other facility items.
- Support maintenance staff with simple plumbing tasks, including unclogging drains, replacing fixtures, and assisting with minor repairs.
- Perform general building upkeep, including repairing furniture and doors, replacing ceiling tiles, and basic wall patching and touch-up work.
- Assist with painting and minor cosmetic repairs as needed.
- Help with moving equipment, setting up rooms, and basic installations.
- Perform routine inspections of assigned areas and report maintenance concerns to supervisors.
- Assist with groundskeeping and outdoor maintenance, including maintaining areas around the building.
- Understand and follow procedures, including reporting hazards promptly, maintaining clean and safe work areas, and following fire and safety protocols.
- Maintain resident privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Attend required training and in-service programs.
- Provide general support to the maintenance team on projects and daily tasks.
- Assist in emergency situations, including helping relocate residents under direction.
- Support other Brothers of Mercy facilities as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Prior maintenance or labor experience helpful but not required.
- Willingness to learn on the job.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Basic problem-solving ability.
- Dependable and willing to learn new skills.
- Comfortable working in a healthcare environment with older adults.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies.
- Ability to safely use basic tools and equipment.
