About the Role
The Principal is the primary school leader responsible for driving academic and character outcomes for students, with a focus on instructional leadership and educator development to improve student achievement.
Responsibilities
- Oversee, lead, and communicate the vision that informs the school’s culture, goals, and behavior management.
- Set ambitious school-wide vision and goals aligned with the KIPP region that leads students on a path to and through college.
- Partner with the school’s Director of Operations to effectively co-lead the instructional and operational goals of the school, as well as foster consistency in academic and behavioral expectations.
- Manage and develop a strong school leadership team that supports teachers and staff to provide strong student outcomes.
- Lead, problem-solve, and make determinations for school-wide issues in a solution-focused manner.
- Plan and prioritize time and resources to meet and achieve goals and timelines.
- Model expectations for leaders, teachers, and students on school-wide practices for a positive learning culture.
- Regularly observe and coach instructional leaders to ensure they are providing high-impact, actionable feedback to teachers weekly.
- Evaluate qualitative feedback, quantitative data, and observations to inform strategy, decision-making, and accountability.
- Manage whole-school professional development workshops that drive high-impact improvements in teacher practice.
- Collaborate with Talent and HR to build systems, structures, and partnerships to recruit, hire, manage, grow, and retain diverse and high-achieving employees.
- Build systems, structures, and relationships to create equitable, inclusive environments for students, families, and employees.
- Build and foster relationships with community leaders and organizations.
- Develop and implement an integrated plan of services that meets the academic, recreational, emotional, cultural, health, and spiritual needs of employees, students, and families.
- Manage and reduce risk in areas of responsibility and report it if it is outside of the site(s) of responsibility.
- Assure health and safety risks are controlled or removed.
- Develop a high potential pipeline of future School Leaders and create systems for ongoing staff development.
- Coach, mentor, and support employees to be accountable for performance expectations and follow through with organizational protocols and procedures.
- Represent the district, region, or school in workgroups or projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as outlined by the Chief Schools Officer and Managing Director of Schools.
- Comply with all charter, federal, state, and local laws, and regulations.
- Adhere to organization policies and procedures; promote and support mission, vision, and values.

- Infrequent travel to different KIPP Capital Region schools is required.
- Willingness to pass a Criminal Background Check.
- At least three (3) plus years of experience as a school principal, preferably in the charter, private, or public school environment.
- At least ten (10) plus years in education, preferably in the charter, private, or public school environment, with progressively increasing responsibilities.
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams in a rapidly changing environment.
- Understanding of working directly with students, preferably in the charter, private, or public school environment.
- Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
