About the Role
Spectrum Health & Human Services partners with individuals and families recovering from behavioral, emotional, mental health, and substance-related disorders by offering opportunities for hope, empowerment, and support to achieve self-defined improvements in their quality of life.
Responsibilities
- Provide psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment.
- Offer clinical supervision, education, and training to the team.
- Develop, maintain, and supervise medication and psychiatric/medical treatment policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Medical Director on psychiatric health services and clinical needs.
- Conduct psychiatric assessments, including history, illness course, treatment response, mental status examination, and DSM-5 diagnoses.
- Participate in case reviews to provide feedback and recommendations.
- Order, interpret, and explain laboratory tests to individuals and families.
- Perform or recommend age-appropriate screening procedures.
- Work with children and families on developmental milestones and life cycle events.
- Collaborate with the care team on physical/behavioral needs and make community referrals.
- Prescribe psychotropic medications, assess therapeutic responses and side effects, and educate individuals/families.
- Perform age-appropriate therapy sessions, including family education.
- Respond to calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours or sooner if clinically necessary).
- Maintain customer relations with agency staff and clients.
- Provide outpatient psychiatric evaluations and medication management services.
- Assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with behavioral health disorders.
- Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments in accordance with the Collaborative Practice Agreement and state Nurse Practice Act.
- Provide crisis assessment and management during work hours and on-call backup as needed.
- Submit written reports and oral testimony for legal proceedings (e.g., AOT, Social Security applications, prior authorization of medication).
- Participate in and supervise the development of comprehensive treatment plans.
Requirements
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of the characteristics and problems of adults and children with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of effective clinical practices and principles.
- Possesses strong clinical skills and experience providing treatment to persons with severe and persistent mental illness.
- Possesses excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate, negotiate, persuade, and instruct.
- Exhibits exceptional judgment and decision-making skills.
- Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Proficient in computer software such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
