About the Role

Repairs and maintains company and customer vehicles and mechanical equipment, including engines and hydraulic systems, adhering to DOT, NYS DOH, and DMV regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Observes mechanical devices for causes of failure.
  • Diagnoses electrical and computer control devices using testing equipment.
  • Dismantles devices to remove defective parts.
  • Examines parts for imperfections and dimensional changes.
  • Adjusts functional parts and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Tests device performance.
  • Fabricates, repairs, and rebuilds parts using metalworking tools.
  • Initiates purchase orders for parts and machines.
  • Repairs electrical equipment.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on fleet vehicles.
  • Completes major fabrication work, including body work, painting, and wheelchair lift installation.
  • Responds to road service calls to evaluate and repair vehicles and equipment.
  • Communicates vehicle status and estimated repair times to supervisors and dispatchers.
  • Performs New York State D.O.T. inspections of road vehicles.
  • Road tests equipment and vehicles.
  • Diagnoses chronic repair problems and develops permanent resolution plans.
  • Operates snow removal equipment.
  • Performs minor building maintenance and equipment repair.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year certificate from college or technical school.
  • Three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid New York State Driver's license.
  • Ability to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions.
  • Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • Ability to work in a very loud noise level environment.
