About the Role

As a social worker within Lewisham’s Children and Young People’s Directorate, you will provide statutory social work services to children, young people, and their families/carers. This includes assessment, intervention, case planning, and review, specifically for Children Looked After (16+), Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children, and those Leaving Care. You will work collaboratively with various professionals and stakeholders to ensure children receive coordinated, trauma-informed support, reflecting the borough's commitment to diversity, inclusion, and relational practice.

Responsibilities

Provide statutory social work services to children, young people, and their families/carers.
Conduct assessments, interventions, case planning, and reviews.
Support Children Looked After (16+), Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children, and those Leaving Care.
Collaborate with foster carers, birth families, adopters, Special Guardians, education and health colleagues, and other partners.
Ensure children benefit from coordinated and trauma-informed support.
Contribute to the development of the service.
Undertake direct work and other activities with children, their Carers, and young people.
Deliver statutory social work and leaving care responsibilities.
Undertake appropriate interventions and work that enables the delivery of Corporate Parenting and other relevant strategies.

Requirements

Knowledge and experience of working with Children Looked After, Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children, and Care Leavers/Care Experienced young people.
Confidence in delivering effective practice.
In-depth knowledge of all aspects relating to these groups.
Curiosity about the complex issues faced by Lewisham’s children and young people.
Understanding of the benefits of regular supervision, evidenced-based practice, partnership working, and clear decision-making.
A strong background in safeguarding and statutory social work.
Knowledge of current childcare legislation and practice.
Expertise in understanding work to support unaccompanied minors and asylum seekers.
Proven leadership skills.
Confidence in taking a curious and trauma-informed approach to work with children and young people.
A commitment to promoting best outcomes for children and young people.
A degree in social work or equivalent qualification.
Registered with Social Work England.
Must pass an enhanced DBS check.
