About the Role

This hands-on position provides technical expertise and oversees and participates in the maintenance, repair, and improvement of facility equipment to reduce downtime while increasing operational efficiency in a validated cGMP environment. The role requires troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, developing new solutions, and supporting after-hours emergency response.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical troubleshooting on a variety of modalities, technologies, and locations.
• Performs regularly scheduled preventative maintenance on high volume, validated processing equipment.
• Reviews preventative maintenance tasks for effectiveness and frequency and recommends continuous improvement changes or Lean practices.
• Diagnoses potential or actual equipment issues through observation, problem identification, and analysis, utilizing available information.
• Ensures appropriate and efficient corrective action is taken for equipment issues.
• Completes operations and project work through construction and/or installation of systems including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Complies with all federal and state safety regulations and local safety policies and procedures.
• Ensures employee safety by adhering to all Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
• Follows SDS safety procedures when using chemicals.
• Ensures appropriate work instructions are developed and implemented for less experienced technicians.
• Contributes to operational efficiency by responding to emergency maintenance calls on a 24/7 basis as assigned.
• Assists in the creation and maintaining of a spare parts program.
• Strives for continuous improvement by analyzing new or alternative ways to improve operations.
• Incorporates staff recommendations into analysis.
• Responds to audit activities in a constructive manner and uses findings to improve operations.
• Maintains mechanical and technical skills, knowledge, and abilities by attending workshops, reviewing trade publications, and participating in training.
• Trains operations personnel to conduct minor, basic repairs to equipment, machinery, etc.
• Contributes in a team effort by performing in accordance with all STERIS policies, cGMP, Lean principles and other directives.
• Supports the directives and decisions of higher level management.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Requires a minimum of three (3) years of related experience.
• Requires ability to read, interpret, and practically apply electrical ladder diagrams and mechanical blueprints.
• Requires working knowledge of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) or other types of process control equipment.
• Requires ability to effectively read, write and verbally communicate in English.
• Requires ability to work independently under general guidelines and supervision.
• Requires computer skills and word processing, spreadsheet and software capabilities re: maintenance work order, inventory and downtime software.
• Requires effective interpersonal skills as demonstrated through prior experience.
• Requires above average organizing, analyzing and a minimum of Level 3 math skills (ratios, proportions, basic algebra) to determine organizational Customer and regulatory problems to formulate corrective action plans.
• Able to adapt to changing duties and responsibilities.
• Requires normal hearing range sufficient to hear alarms, bells, horns, etc.

Skills

• Ability to meet physical requirements of position, including physical capacity evaluation testing and annual physical, as appropriate.
• Ability to successfully complete Operator training (classroom and hands-on) to become certified Operator and successfully pass Operator re-certification test annually.
• Support Lean practices and principles.
