About the Role

As a Principal Ecologist, you will join a team of over 50 ecologists with extensive experience in ecological surveys, assessments, and expert advice on various environmental issues. You will contribute to a variety of large-scale projects, including residential development, infrastructure, and energy projects, serving diverse public and private clients.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the quality control, coordination, and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of projects to meet time, budgetary, and SHEQ targets.
  • Manage the ecological aspects of client relationships to exceed expectations.
  • Provide direction and technical advice as a leader within projects and the team.
  • Lead by example in project delivery and team collaboration.

Requirements

  • Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, biodiversity metrics, and relevant environmental/ecological impact assessment legislation, policy, and guidance.
  • In-depth knowledge of specific plant or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills.
  • Proven track record in writing and delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs).
  • Proven track record in writing and/or delivering Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
  • Proven track record in writing and delivering Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs).
  • Proven track record in writing Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements that have been successfully consented.
  • Proven track record in writing project and/or plan-level Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRAs).
  • Excellent commercial and project management skills for various project sizes.
  • Proven experience in bid production and client interaction.
  • Ability to line manage and potentially lead a team.
  • Hold survey and/or mitigation/conservation licenses.
  • Leads in the design and compliance of biosecurity and health and safety protocols.
  • Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist or demonstrably approaching Chartered Ecologist status.
  • Full member of CIEEM.
  • Ability to travel when necessary.
