About the Role

Manage and guide the integration of Public Realm and Landscape design from various sources to meet project objectives, design vision, and environmental requirements. Provide qualitative assurance and verification on key design issues to senior management, collaborating with Integrated Project Teams and the Natural and Built Environment team.

Responsibilities

  • Review and manage technical assurance activities for landscape and public realm design development and delivery within a defined geographic area.
  • Work cross-programme to integrate a holistic design that meets HS2 Design Vision and Landscape Design Approach requirements.
  • Provide technical knowledge and advice at a manager level for Landscape Design to HS2 LTD.
  • Collaborate with HS2 LTD colleagues and project disciplines at manager and senior manager level to promote an integrated approach to Landscape Design.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with project service consultants and stakeholders to ensure Landscape Design requirements are met.
  • Provide briefings and presentations as necessary.
  • Manage and guide design activities undertaken by project service consultants and critically review key design deliverables.
  • Provide regular updates to the Senior Manager Landscape Design and the Landscape Lead – Routewide.
  • Ensure safety is a key priority in all aspects of the role.
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all work and comply with organisational initiatives, policies, and procedures on EDI.

Requirements

  • Degree in Landscape Architecture or equivalent work experience.
  • Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute or working towards LI’s Chartership.
  • Understanding of cost delivery, schedule targets, and the need for integrated, high-quality solutions.
  • Experience in managing medium to large landscape design projects at a senior management level from inception to completion.
  • Experience working collaboratively in multidisciplinary management or design teams with engineers, construction experts, architects, and environmental specialists.
  • Experience in site supervision of medium to large landscape construction projects.
  • Experience in undertaking design reviews and critiquing to achieve high-quality design proposals.
  • Experience in giving risk-based advice to stakeholders.
  • Experience in developing pragmatic approaches to design challenges.
  • Must have the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks (Nationality & Immigration Status, employment references, DBS, Financial and Education checks).

Skills

  • Design skills for soft and hard landscape areas (including Public Realm) and Landscape Masterplans.
  • Design skills for developing integrated places that achieve social, environmental, and economic benefits.
  • Ability to manage medium to large scale landscape design activities.
  • Ability to develop appropriate, cost-balanced, high-quality design solutions with specialists.
  • Ability to manage multiple consultants.
  • Communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex tasks.
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse and highly skilled team.

  • 20% flexible benefits fund on top of base salary
