About the Role

As New Idea’s News Editor, you’ll be responsible for shaping and delivering high-impact, audience-first content across our print and digital platforms. This role is perfect for a driven editor with exceptional editorial instincts, legal knowledge and a sharp understanding of content performance.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively pitch, commission, and produce original ideas
  • Manage end-to-end workflows
  • Write and edit flawless copy
  • Plan ahead
  • Collaborate across departments
  • Be fully immersed in the weekly news cycle and trending TV shows to inspire exciting, fresh and hard-hitting angles that resonate with our audience
  • Write and edit stories in New Idea’s style and tone, for print and online
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and effective content delivery across platforms
  • Source, script and create video content for news and crime stories that drives engagement across digital and social channels
  • Commission stories from freelance journalists

Requirements

  • At least four years’ experience as a journalist on a magazine, newspaper or digital platform
  • Solid journalism background, with experience commissioning, writing and editing high-quality long-form content
  • Excellent news sense and ability to identify resonant and relevant story angles
  • Deep understanding of issues that matter to everyday Australian women, audience behaviour, digital best practices and multi-platform publishing
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, highly organised, with an eye for accuracy and detail
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across large teams, work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Confidence in using content management systems and workflow tools
  • Demonstrated project management and time management skills
