About the Role

Provide extraordinary shopping experiences to guests and exceptional service at the time of checkout. This role is crucial for assisting customers with purchases, handling transactions, and maintaining store appearance.

Responsibilities

  • Know and actively demonstrate the Company Mission Statement and Core Values daily.
  • Maintain uniform standards as detailed in the Employee Manual.
  • Greet guests with a smiling face and helpful demeanor, using the Guest Services script.
  • Operate cash register or electronic scanner and look up products as needed.
  • Ensure proper pricing by scanning the correct barcode.
  • Properly use and maintain computers, registers, and scanner equipment.
  • Suggestively sell items to guests at the register and offer add-on items.
  • Monitor merchandise brought to the register by stockers to ensure accurate charges.
  • Redeem coupons and weigh produce items when required.
  • Kindly ask the guest to read and answer the pin pad question before starting the transaction.
  • Check acceptable identification to ensure legal sales, using professional best practices.
  • Receive cash, checks, debit cards, credit cards, or gift cards.
  • Issue receipts and any change due.
  • Accurately count change back to the guest.
  • Bag or box merchandise, using bags and boxes judiciously.
  • Assist with carry-outs when needed and feasible.
  • Compute and record totals of all transactions on daily record sheet.
  • Call the code for a cash drop as soon as the limit has been reached.
  • Keep work area clean and neat, and do not overstock counter with merchandise.
  • Count down drawer at end of shift and prepare final drop.
  • Answer questions and provide information to guests.
  • Resolve guest complaints with courtesy and respect.
  • Avoid conversations with coworkers when guests are present.
  • Avoid use of personal cell phone while on the sales floor.
  • Stock shelves and check price tags as needed.
  • Monitor checkout station, ensuring necessary supplies are in stock.
  • Prepare assigned areas for inventory and assist in the inventory process.
  • Carry out directives of management efficiently.
  • Fulfill responsibilities with care and attention to detail.
  • Practice teamwork and cooperation with others.
  • Manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Manage stress in a fast-paced environment.
  • Stand for most of shift, bend and walk occasionally.
  • Use arms, hands, and fingers to feel, handle, reach, and lift.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Push and/or pull 50-100 pounds or more occasionally.
  • Communicate with and understand team members and guests.
  • See product and payment methods.
  • Work in accordance with all safety regulations.
  • Perform other projects and tasks assigned by management, including cleaning restrooms.
  • Maintain attendance and timeliness.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit.
  • Maintain a valid Food Handlers Permit in some cases.
  • Perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Requirements

  • Must be over the age of 21.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions or memos.
  • Ability to communicate with and understand coworkers and guests.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in both whole numbers and in fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate discounts and percentages.
  • Must be responsible, reliable, and committed to providing extraordinary service.
  • Must possess patience, friendliness, and an outgoing personality.
  • Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Must be available to work any shift on Friday or Saturday.
  • Must be available 80% or more of all shifts each week.
  • Must maintain a valid TABC Beverage Sellers Permit.
  • Must maintain a valid Food Handlers Permit in some cases.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Previous experience in retail or customer service preferred.
  • Familiarity with cash handling procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic math for cash transactions.
  • Strong communication skills, including phone etiquette.
