About the Role

Labs exists to provide engineering teams with the headspace to follow hunches, investigate anomalies, or prove out unrequested ideas. Most investigations will be self-initiated, and while not all will succeed, some will fundamentally change the company's capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Spotting that an existing subsystem can do something far beyond its original design and building the necessary integration.
• Profiling a critical system path to achieve significant load reduction.
• Investigating promising ideas and documenting findings, even if they prove to be dead-ends.
• Debugging unfamiliar systems and reading existing codebases.
• Contributing to self-initiated projects.

Requirements

• Proven ability to solve complex problems.
• Deep understanding of system-level operations including memory, cache behavior, NUMA, and system call costs.
• Proficiency in C++.
• Experience working with multiple programming languages (e.g., C++, Java, Go, JavaScript, Swift).
• Ability to quickly become proficient in unfamiliar technology stacks.
• Self-starter with a low-ego approach to collaboration.
• Comfort working at the system and network levels.
• Experience with profiling tools.
• Experience with reverse-engineering.
• Experience debugging unfamiliar systems.
• Experience reading and understanding other people's code.
• Demonstrated history of self-initiated projects.
