About the Role
Teneo is seeking a Senior Vice President to join the Strategy and Communications team in Tokyo. This role involves providing integrated communications counsel to CEOs and business leaders, leading client accounts, and driving strategic goals across various disciplines including financial communications, investor relations, and crisis management.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to multinational clients on corporate reputation, campaigning, and strategic communications.
- Lead the development and deployment of integrated communications strategies using research and global resources.
- Provide expert counsel on reputation management, stakeholder engagement, proactive storytelling, issues management, and crisis communications.
- Guide clients in engagement with buy and sell-side stakeholders, stock exchanges, and shareholders.
- Support critical workstreams including government affairs, ESG, M&A, and restructurings.
- Lead account delivery, manage expert teams, and act as the primary client point of contact.
- Coach and mentor junior team members and support their performance reviews.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships and identify growth opportunities.
- Actively build a network of new client relationships and lead proposal development and pitch meetings.
- Demonstrate commercial acumen in costing and managing project delivery.
- Create advisory notes addressing media narratives, geopolitical risks, and reputational issues.
- Monitor media coverage for clients and competitors.
- Proactively seek learning and development opportunities and share knowledge across the team.
Requirements
- 10-15 years of experience in corporate or financial communications, investor relations, corporate planning, compliance, investment banking, or strategic advisory.
- At least five years of working experience within a Japanese corporate.
- Strong track record of managing high-stakes relationships with Japanese and international media.
- Strong working knowledge of Japanese media.
- Native fluency in Japanese with excellent writing and presentation skills.
- Business-level fluency in English.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, including logical thinking.
- Ability to take personal responsibility for quality, meet deadlines, and perform under pressure.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, journalism, communications, public policy, finance, or economics.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint and Excel.
- Proven track record in managing complex briefs and delivering high-quality client service.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Japan macroeconomic landscape.
- Strong management and organizational skills.
- Executive presence with the ability to present to C-Suite leadership.
