About the Role

BDO is committed to proactive risk and opportunity management through a strong culture and practical frameworks. The Quality and Risk Management team ensures risks are managed proactively and policies regarding independence, conflicts, and ethics are consistently applied.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex auditor independence consultations by applying sound judgement and relevant standards.
  • Assess the permissibility of non-assurance services for audit clients, business relationships, ethics, and conflict of interest matters.
  • Provide clear, practical advice that meets regulatory requirements and supports business needs.
  • Review work prepared by and coach junior team members.
  • Support the Senior Manager and Head of ICE on complex and high-risk independence matters.
  • Lead the assessment, documentation, and communication of independence technical interpretations.
  • Identify emerging key risks early and implement strategies to prevent or reduce potential independence issues.
  • Support the development and implementation of ICE policies, frameworks, and procedures.
  • Drive process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency, consistency, and transparency.
  • Translate global independence developments into clear, practical guidance for the business.
  • Mentor and support junior team members.
  • Role model excellence in independence, promoting a strong culture of risk awareness and accountability.
  • Manage work allocation, prioritisation, and resourcing for effective delivery.

Requirements

  • Well-developed technical expertise across key independence areas.
  • Strong demonstrated experience in a comparable role, ideally within professional services.
  • Effective stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities proactively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong knowledge of, and practical experience in the application of APES 110 Code of Ethics or the IESBA Code.
  • Proven technical capability in assessing non-assurance services and applying auditor independence requirements.
  • Demonstrated technical capability in conflicts of interest, with excellent attention to detail, agility and adaptability.
  • Hands-on approach, with a willingness to take ownership of day-to-day tasks.
  • Experience drafting technical assessment memos, breach documentation and communications.
  • Experience developing technical learning materials and delivering training.
