About the Role

The role involves taking active responsibility for governance structures and processes within Capital Markets products, focusing on critical issues across products and countries. It requires partnership with support functions, senior management, and the wider group. The position also involves providing leadership in idea generation, client coverage, and a solutions-led approach to Corp/SSA/FIG clients in Japan.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively engage with Capital Markets leadership team to deliver revenue and league table targets and further develop the HSBC franchise.
  • Originate and execute DCM business with Japan CIB clients.
  • Liaise with relevant regulators and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with HSBC regulatory requirements, operational standards, and values.
  • Drive the continued growth of Debt Financing through the execution of DCM strategy.
  • Engage with stakeholders across CIB to translate the bank’s strategy into effective global execution and implementation plans.
  • Engage various stakeholders including risk, compliance, and legal to mobilize the execution strategy.
  • Ensure effective governance structures are in place for oversight, control, and monitoring of strategy execution.
  • Provide constructive challenge to existing practices and generate innovative solutions.
  • Support new business origination and client coverage to deepen relationships.
  • Proactively support and steer key cross-product/business collaboration initiatives.
  • Manage team leadership and direct reports, including performance management, talent management, and succession planning.
  • Drive the development and implementation of HR initiatives for career development and talent management.
  • Provide leadership across DCM, driving the Business and People agendas, and role-modeling HSBC values.
  • Represent Capital Markets externally with clients, regulators, and other third parties.
  • Foster good working relationships with key stakeholders for a global perspective on critical issues.
  • Establish and maintain a robust control environment across Capital Markets for operational, financial, and project management.
  • Ensure compliance with HSBC policy and procedures, and early identification/resolution of issues.
  • Drive the definition and embedding of the bank’s policy and governance frameworks across all business lines.

Requirements

  • DCM experience of over years, including Japan.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Track record of client coverage in the Japanese SSA & Corporate sector.
  • Ability to solve problems and think laterally and strategically around challenging situations and evolving market themes.
  • Deep corporate finance / credit analytical skills.
