About the Role
The Area Director of Finance will provide financial expertise to ensure the successful implementation of the centralized Select Service division, maximizing owner ROI. This role involves overseeing accounting, reporting operational results, optimizing efficiencies, and providing financial support for properties within the division.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the accounting functions of the division, including month-end close processes, financial statement preparation, accruals, and journal entries.
- Maintain balance sheet account reconciliations in accordance with local GAAP.
- Develop strategies to improve profit by estimating costs and benefits and exploring new business opportunities.
- Analyze information, forecast sales against expenses, and create annual budget plans.
- Develop, execute, and implement new business plans creatively and practically.
- Create the annual operating budget for the property.
- Provide analytical support during budget reviews to identify cost-saving and productivity opportunities.
- Implement appropriate controls to manage business risks.
- Ensure a strong accounting and operational control environment to safeguard assets and improve operations.
- Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive annual business plan aligned with strategic direction.
- Produce accurate forecasts to enable operational adjustments.
- Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and encourage others.
- Advocate for sound financial/business decision-making, demonstrating honesty and integrity.
- Leverage functional leadership and communication skills to influence property strategies and lead own team.
- Manage effective communication with owners.
- Manage property working capital and cash flow according to SOPs and owner requirements.
- Ensure P&L accuracy, matching costs to revenue and recording them in proper accounts.
- Understand basic contract elements such as royalty fees, management agreements, terms, priorities, and profit distribution.
- Maintain close relations with internal and external auditors and implement agreed-upon recommendations.
- Utilize business information effectively.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Superior computer software capabilities (Micros, OPERA, On-Q, ProfitSword, Acumatica).
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, financial regulations, and internal controls.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with owners.
- Ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
