About the Role

The YMCA of Greater San Francisco is seeking a Youth Sports & Camp Coordinator to supervise, operate, develop, and implement out-of-school time sports and camp programs for youth at the Presidio YMCA. This role involves delivering and developing school-year programs, supervising staff, and creating a positive environment for youth during summer day camp. The coordinator will build relationships with youth, families, staff, and partner organizations, fostering a lifelong connection to healthy living through the YMCA's youth development model. The position requires adaptability in a fast-paced environment, strong role-modeling, and effective communication.

Responsibilities

Develop and implement a goal-driven work plan and annual action plan with program activities and deadlines.
Plan and implement summer day camp programming, including structured activities, snack and lunch times, and enrichment opportunities.
Organize and lead after-school youth sports and camp programs.
Ensure program environments are welcoming, accessible, and inclusive.
Identify and remove barriers to participation.
Assist with hiring, supervising, and training youth sports and camp staff and volunteers.
Engage and support volunteers.
Coordinate staffing for programs and provide direct service as needed.
Provide ongoing training and support for program staff, including holding regular staff meetings, developing and implementing training sessions, observing staff, offering feedback, ensuring completion of required training, and conducting annual performance evaluations.
Recruit and retain youth participants through outreach efforts, including creating and distributing promotional materials, building relationships with families and community leaders, collecting and organizing registration paperwork, and maintaining participant records.
Develop partnerships with schools, administrators, counselors, teachers, and community organizations.
Monitor participants and provide behavioral support using proactive strategies.
Facilitate restorative practices and de-escalation techniques as needed.
Ensure equipment and supplies are available, safe, and appropriate for participants.
Maintain high standards of leadership, enthusiasm, creativity, and respect for participants, families, and staff.
Complete administrative tasks related to program operations.
Communicate with parents and caregivers as needed, ensuring prompt responses to inquiries.
Address concerns or complaints and escalate issues to supervisors when necessary.
Ensure compliance with safety, supervision, risk management, and mandatory reporting policies.
Attend required staff meetings and professional development training.
Complete all mandatory safety training and certifications before the first shift.
Maintain professional conduct and work ethic.
Follow hygiene and sanitation guidelines, including frequent handwashing.
Adhere to YMCA safety policies and procedures.
Demonstrate YMCA leadership values, including mission advancement, relationship-building, operational effectiveness, and staff development.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Must successfully complete a background screening, including criminal and employment verification.

21 years or older
High School Diploma
2+ year experience working with youth in an organized setting
1+ year previous supervision experience
A commitment to providing young people with the highest-quality youth development experience
Knowledgeable about youth development program design and planning, administration and evaluation, child abuse reporting laws, as well as knowledge and awareness of a wide variety of out of school activities.
Must be a talented multi-tasker and an independent worker who is adept at working on a team, thrives in a start-up environment and maintains a flexible and positive attitude
Experience working with elementary aged youth in sports and/or recreational settings
Excellent organizational skills and multi-project/multi-task oriented, including experience scheduling and coordinating multiple fun and education-focused activities for youth.
A team player with proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socio-economic, educational, religious, sexual and generational backgrounds.
Fingerprint background check clearance
Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (can complete upon hire)
2+ years of organized youth sports coaching experience
3+ years or more working with youth in an organized setting and 2+ years of proven staff development, supervision and training
Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, or Tagalog
Experience with restorative practices and de-escalation strategies.
