About the Role

Support PCI’s mission to provide an industry-leading client experience by developing and commercializing solutions to optimize the delivery of lifesaving medicines and improve patient health outcomes. This role involves creating and preparing structural packaging design solutions for clients, supporting commercial sales efforts and specialized Design Services.

Responsibilities

  • Design, specify, and implement new structural packaging designs.
  • Coordinate design and/or develop packaging to extend customer product life cycles and/or target marketing objectives.
  • Ensure new packaging designs, improvements, specifications, and materials conform to current operating methods and packaging machinery.
  • Use advanced CAD software to design individual packaging components and/or create complete packaging systems/solutions.
  • Transfer designs to physical samples using appropriate methods and prototyping equipment while effectively managing lab resources.
  • Evaluate package designs using standard methods and procedures.
  • Engage customers to assess current packaging systems capabilities and make recommendations for optimal solutions.
  • Test new packaging and materials to assess performance and manufacturability.
  • Coordinate feasibility tests, monitor results, compile data, and make recommendations.
  • Continuously analyze cost reduction opportunities in current package design, materials, and processing.
  • Develop best-in-class, innovative, patentable package designs.
  • Track and understand current packaging trends in the industry.
  • Collaborate closely with functional teams and stakeholders, including Sales & Marketing, Estimating, Project Management, Purchasing, and Engineering, in the development of designs and establish key deadlines and deliverables.
  • Support internal corporate activities.
  • Provide training and direction to Interns/Co-Ops and Jr. Designers as needed.
  • Adhere to all PCI, cGMP, and GCP policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Plan/coordinate and execute R&D and prototyping activities in the Design Lab.
  • Plan and oversee workflows, training, development, and outputs of Packaging Design Interns/Co-Ops.
  • Maintain reliability of on-site prototyping laboratory, including management of supplies and equipment safety/maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or 7-10 years related experience and/or training.
  • Basic Mathematical Skills.
  • Advanced Computer Skills: Ability to perform the most complex computer tasks and operate various computer programs.
  • Full Professional Proficiency: Ability to speak, read, and write fluently and accurately on all levels pertinent to professional needs.
  • High Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where there is only limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions that may be provided in various forms.
  • High Standard of Report Writing.
  • Must demonstrate a broad knowledge of packaging programs including production function and capability.
  • Persons must be able to unassisted implement a packaging concept from initial model to delivered production component while exploring and resolving manufacturing conflicts.
  • Ability to effectively present information to various people as the job requires.
  • Ability to follow instructions and respond to management direction.
  • Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
  • Ability to display original thinking and creativity.
