About the Role

Practice in an advanced role to provide health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions. The NP will work collaboratively with the health care team under established guidelines and clinical protocols, assuming independent and interdependent responsibilities in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment initiation. Responsibilities include education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice.

Responsibilities

Collect and evaluate health assessment data and manage patients' caseload using advanced practice knowledge and skills.
Obtain comprehensive health, developmental, and family history.
Assess patient's physical status through physical examination.
Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings.
Perform or recommend age-appropriate health screening procedures.
Provide health maintenance and health promotion for children of all ages.
Perform and evaluate diagnostic procedures and laboratory tests.
Analyze multiple sources of data and formulate a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians.
Follow established delegation protocols to manage specific patient problems.
Formulate a plan of care in collaboration with other health care professionals.
Evaluate patient’s responses to interventions and modify the plan of care.
Accurately present and document the data, impression, and plan of care on all patients.
Demonstrate effective communication skills and work to eliminate communication barriers.
Collaborate effectively with other members of the health care disciplines to provide comprehensive care.
Utilize effective and appropriate interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and/or family and collaborate in developing the care plan.
Request consultation and/or initiate referral for specialized care as appropriate.
Communicate comprehensive assessment, impression, and plan of care to health care team members.
Serve as an educational resource for patients, families, community, and other health care professionals.
Apply new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing to clinical practice.
Demonstrate current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills.
Maintain knowledge base by reading professional literature, attending staff development, and continuing education programs annually.
Participate in departmental Quality Improvement program annually.
Participate in departmental and hospital committees promoting quality nursing care.
Undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Requirements

Master’s degree in nursing required
RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required
FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing required

Skills

Nurse practitioner GI and or pediatric experience strongly preferred
