About the Role
The Métis Bail Supervision Coordinator provides virtual and in-person case management support for Métis individuals involved in the criminal justice system during the bail and bail release phase. This role is essential for providing care and support to Métis Nation citizens and reports to the Supervisor of Advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Review client’s criminal history and current charges to make informed decisions about program eligibility.
- Screen clients’ eligibility for the Métis Bail Supervision Program, liaising with duty counsel and Crown attorneys.
- Facilitate referrals to internal and external services, including mental health and addiction, housing, and food security.
- Schedule and conduct client supervision appointments, ensuring client accountability and reporting failures to attend.
- Develop culturally-appropriate and client-led bail release plans for Métis clients.
- Advocate for consideration of Gladue factors at bail court.
- Collaborate with community partners, correctional facilities, and other justice system stakeholders.
- Attend bail court and correctional facilities to meet with clients.
- Respond to general inquiries about the Métis Bail Supervision Program.
- Provide case and file management, assisting clients in understanding and following bail release conditions.
- Support clients with completion of bail variation forms.
- Track program statistics for quarterly reporting.
- Promote organizational values and demonstrate positive professional relationships.
- Report all unsafe conditions, hazards, accidents, and incidents.
- Perform other job/branch-related duties as required.
Requirements
- College Diploma (3 Year)
- 1 to 3 years of experience in Indigenous client justice services, social work, and/or case management
- Demonstrated experience with personal and confidential information in a professional, tactful, and diplomatic manner
- Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
- Experience integrating trauma-informed approaches into their work
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system, Métis-specific programs, community supports and services throughout Ontario
- Knowledge of trauma informed approaches
- High degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment including Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe and other software
- Demonstrated case management experience and ability to manage a high caseload
- Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain partnerships with justice system officials, stakeholders and community members
- Firm understanding of criminal court procedures, including bail court and the application of Gladue principles at bail for Métis people
- Superior organization skills and time/priority management
- Willing and able to travel throughout Ontario for Advocacy Program objectives and training
- Willing and able to occasionally work hours outside of the regular schedule
- Must possess a valid G-class driver’s license
