About the Role

Empire Life is seeking a Group Accounting Specialist to join our Group Operations team. This role offers an opportunity to grow your skills and directly contribute to the business unit, while honing both technical and functional expertise in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Processes premium payments, refunds, overdue accounts, and policy terminations.
  • Reconciles billings for specialty partners, investigates, and communicates discrepancies.
  • Compiles and reconciles month-end and year-end accounting and reinsurance reports.
  • Investigates account discrepancies for Corporate Accounting.
  • Supports Administration Services Only (ASO) group accounts, including quarterly and yearly reporting statements.
  • Compiles and balances provincial and federal tax submissions for all tax accounts.
  • Reports directly to Canada Revenue Agency and Revenue Quebec.
  • Prepares and ensures timely and accurate release of invoice payments to vendors and disability claimants.
  • Resolves inquiries regarding financial and accounting transactions for group clients' accounts and/or disability claimant benefits.
  • Provides support, guidance, and training to new employees or cross-training initiatives.
  • Completes reconciliations and databases to support controls framework for the Group Division.
  • Uses industry standards, internal processes, and creative thinking to resolve administrative/accounting issues.
  • Works on ad-hoc tasks as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in the insurance/financial services industry.
  • Knowledge of group benefit contracts and products.
  • Experience with account reconciliations or payroll calculations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize and innovate.
  • Analytical thinking and good communication skills.
  • If applying for a position open across Canada, unless otherwise indicated, English proficiency is required for communication.

Skills

  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be an asset.
  • Experience with Excel would be an asset.

  • $50,880 - $75,260 (Total Target Compensation)
