About the Role

Scholar Rock is a late-stage global biopharmaceutical company focused on developing and commercializing apitegromab for children and adults with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) and other rare, severe, and debilitating neuromuscular diseases. The Director of Supply Chain will be responsible for building, implementing, and managing the commercial supply chain for Scholar Rock in Japan, overseeing daily operations and working closely with global colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end supply chain operations, establishing strategies and overseeing launch execution.
  • Drive strategic capabilities to support current and future assets from the Scholar Rock pipeline.
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration with planning, manufacturing, logistics, regulatory, finance, IT, and commercial teams.
  • Establish and strengthen external partnerships with packaging contract manufacturers (CMOs).
  • Negotiate and secure strategic contracts with packaging CMO providers.
  • Lead New Product Introduction execution with external partners for the Japanese market.
  • Oversee product packaging qualification and validation activities.
  • Coordinate logistics operations for drug product importation and finished goods transfer to Wholesalers.
  • Support continuous performance assessment and utilization of KPIs of CMO partners.
  • Design, implement, and monitor supply operations risk mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with IT to implement systems supporting supply chain operations in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee purchase order/invoice management and material management within the Scholar Rock ERP system for Japan.
  • Support management of the supply chain operations budget, monitor expenses, and identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Conduct strategic cost-benefit analysis of supply chain operations.
  • Ensure smooth inventory supply, meeting product delivery timelines and customer expectations.
  • Guarantee timely and accurate product deliveries while maintaining service quality.
  • Address and resolve product supply issues related to packaging operations or operational challenges.
  • Be a proactive member of the supply chain and Japanese teams.
  • Collaborate closely with global execution teams (IT/Systems, Finance) for cross-functional alignment.
  • Partner with quality and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with global regulations and audit readiness.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience at Associate Director level or above in the Biopharma industry.
  • Experience in start-up/rare disease products is a plus.
  • Commercial product launch experience including artwork, packaging operations, and transportation/distribution.
  • Strong strategic planning skills with a strong interest in developing team and individuals.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Good level of spoken and written English.
