About the Role

We are currently seeking a talented Supplier Quality Engineer at our Middletown, CT facility. They will need to have experience performing audits, analyze supplier processes and products, conduct root cause analysis for issues with parts, drive corrective actions, and reject or stop parts if they arrive with defects. Drive quality for assigned suppliers, including quality plan implementation. Select suppliers through qualification processes. Own supplier results, drive improvements utilizing supplier scorecards. Own supplier audits, ensuring compliance, and driving improvement plans where needed. Be on site and integrated into the supplier throughout the month to support key gaps in quality performance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures suppliers meet contractual/regulatory and internal quality standards for parts and materials.
  • Performs audits, analyzes supplier processes and products, conducts root cause analysis for issues with parts, drives corrective actions, and rejects or stops parts if they arrive with defects.
  • Performs supplier qualification, performance monitoring, development, and documents first article inspections.
  • Qualifies and evaluates new suppliers and monitors performance.
  • Conducts audits of supplier facilities and processes to ensure compliance with ISO/AS9100 quality standards and contractual requirements.
  • Investigates and analyzes supplier defects.
  • Performs supplier source inspections, first article inspections, supplier surveys, and audits assuring supplier corrective action where required.
  • Interfaces with procurement and other personnel within the procurement organization.
  • Maintains the supplier rating system, which defines the total cost of ownership of products procured from suppliers.
  • Implements and maintains a supplier approval system that qualifies suppliers to do business with the company and meet varied purchase order requirements.
  • Evaluates lean initiatives at supplier facilities and assists in implementing lean as necessary.
  • Assures the means for procurement to issue purchase orders to qualified/approved suppliers and that all requirements are included in the purchase orders.
  • Manages the supplier corrective action system to identify and correct supplier problems in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates Supplier Manufacturing Readiness Reviews and manages Supplier Request for Variance (when applicable).
  • Conducts capability assessments that verify supplier qualifications.
  • Travels to assigned suppliers and leads multiple projects to completion.
  • Acts as primary interface between the company and suppliers in resolving technical problems and performing source control inspections.
  • Coordinates with functional departments and ensures that problems are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Aids in determining the responsibility of discrepant hardware already received into the company and issued to the shop or shipped to customers.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communications with other operating departments and suppliers to facilitate problem identification/resolution and compliance with various specification requirements for supplier control.
  • Prepares and maintains reports such as supplier performance, survey results, specification compliance, corrective actions, etc.
  • Conducts audits.
  • Analyzes defect trends.
  • Monitors supplier performance and response times to ensure production continuity.
  • Manages supplier corrective action reports.
  • Develops and implements supplier quality-related training programs for the quality and sourcing teams.
  • Interfaces with cell managers to assure all applicable inspections/tests are performed and that only acceptable hardware is received into the company.
  • Collects and analyzes supplier quality and delivery data.
  • Develops and implements cost-effective intervention plans to improve quality and on-time-delivery ratings.
  • Maintains a list of approved suppliers.
  • Monitors suppliers for continuous improvements.
  • Ability to travel for supplier visits.

Requirements

  • Broad knowledge of a general technical field such as electrical, mechanical, industrial engineering.
  • Thorough understanding of AS9100/ISO 9000 regulations certification process.
  • US citizenship is required for this role.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time to suppliers.
  • Qualified auditor to industry requirements for AS9100 and two or more special processes.
  • Knowledge of NADCAP and other Special Processes applicable to client sites and suppliers.
  • Strong computer skills with high level proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Excel and PowerPoint as well as comfortability working with virtual communication and meeting tools such as Teams or similar.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written.
  • Experience with project management and facilitation.
  • Ability to interface effectively with all levels of leadership.
  • Ability to identify risks and mitigating actions to achieve positive results.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interface within and between culturally diverse organizations, data, define actions, and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for implementing solutions.
  • Knowledge and application of statistical analysis methods is preferred.
  • Excellent team building skills, creating constructive and open environments for sharing data.
  • Experience with Aerospace products.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability to drive step change improvements in quality performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage the activities of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven problem-solving skills, including ability to interpret data, define actions, and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for implementing solutions.
  • Adept in soliciting facts and opinions from all team members and creating a constructive and open environment for sharing data.
  • Capable of making fact-based decisions and communicating with team members as to why certain facts or recommendations prevailed over others.
