About the Role

The Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS) Surveillance Credit Ratings Analyst will be responsible for rating and monitoring bonds secured by commercial real estate loans. This role involves conducting in-depth analysis of collateral and transactions for annual and event-driven reviews within the Morningstar DBRS rated CMBS portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Gain a thorough understanding of methodologies, models, criteria, and analytical tools to evaluate the creditworthiness of various CMBS transaction types.
  • Lead surveillance reviews for Morningstar DBRS-rated CMBS transactions, analyzing property-level documents and bond-level reporting.
  • Communicate with third parties, including servicers, to obtain necessary collateral updates.
  • Prepare rating committee documents and present analysis and recommendations to rating committee voters.
  • Draft press releases and rating letters to clearly communicate credit views and rating rationales.
  • Collaborate with senior reviewers and the publishing group to finalize and release documents.
  • Assist in creating surveillance reports and market commentaries for investors and conferences.
  • Analyze newly-contributed loans for the Morningstar DBRS CRE CLO rated book, applying relevant criteria.
  • Assist with the analysis of newly-issued Morningstar DBRS-rated CMBS transactions in Canada, including site inspections.
  • Perform some travel, estimated at 5-10%.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of commercial real estate experience.
  • Ability to work in a multi-faceted capacity.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Poised demeanor with excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • High proficiency in Excel.
  • Intellectual curiosity to develop new applications and perform complex analyses.
  • Well-developed writing skills.
  • Possession of all necessary documents for domestic and international travel.
