About the Role
FAIRR is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented team player to join the Research and Data (R&D) team as an analyst. This role will drive company-level research for the Protein Producer Index (PPI) and Seafood Index (SI), using data-driven benchmarks to help market participants understand risks and opportunities in global food systems. You will manage a portfolio of companies, collaborate with subject matter experts on sector and thematic research, and contribute to benchmark product development.
Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and score publicly available data to assess how companies manage ESG risks and opportunities.
- Apply FAIRR’s methodology with accuracy and consistency, adhering to internal quality standards.
- Translate raw data into actionable insights at the company level, highlighting emerging risks, opportunities, trends, and progress in food system sustainability.
- Draft structured outputs, including summaries, data-driven reports, and briefing notes.
- Lead constructive conversations with companies during the research cycle, providing guidance on process, timelines, methodology, and findings.
- Continuously monitor a portfolio of companies outside research cycles, tracking strategic changes, new initiatives, emerging risks, and controversies.
- Act as a key point of contact for investor members, media, and external stakeholders seeking insights into company scores and benchmark assessments.
- Continuously deepen subject-matter expertise in global food systems and/or specific research methodologies.
- Provide feedback on methodologies, products, processes, and technological systems for continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with colleagues across FAIRR teams on an ad hoc and project-based basis, responding to research requests, supporting engagement, and contributing analytical input.
Requirements
- Fluency in Japanese.
- Passionate about Sustainability and deepening understanding of risks and opportunities in terrestrial and marine food systems.
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, applying logical reasoning to draw conclusions.
- Commitment to rigor, accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.
- Organized and precise with the ability to apply judgment and reason when handling sensitive company information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex concepts to diverse stakeholders.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
- Output-focused.
- Demonstrable interest in sustainability, sustainable food systems, and sustainable finance.
- Understanding of ESG frameworks (e.g., GRI, SASB, TCFD, UN SDGs).
- Familiarity with ESG rating methodologies, tools, and databases (e.g., Bloomberg ESG, MSCI ESG, Sustainalytics).
- Knowledge of financial data platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Capital IQ) for sourcing company financials, filings, and ownership structures.
