About the Role

The Senior Manager, Accounting will lead and oversee the property accounting function for a complex portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role involves managing a team of professionals, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining effective internal controls, and driving operational excellence to support the company's business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and lead the property accounting team through coaching, training, and performance reviews.
  • Manage property accounting for a complex portfolio, including joint ventures and retail/shared facilities.
  • Review monthly property financial statements, journal entries, and recovery reconciliations.
  • Perform detailed revenue, balance sheet, and NOI/SANOI/FFO/AFFO analysis.
  • Prepare financial data for quarterly statements and MD&A.
  • Coordinate internal control audits and annual CAM statement audits.
  • Liaise with external auditors regarding financial queries.
  • Lead the annual budget process and review consolidated budget schedules.
  • Improve accounting processes and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Establish annual department goals and objectives.
  • Participate in ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of property accounting experience in a commercial/retail real estate company.
  • At least 5 years of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in budgeting, full-cycle accounting, and lease terminology.
  • University degree in accounting or finance.
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, or JD Edwards.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and knowledge of MS Word.
  • Strong strategic planning, financial leadership, and business partnering skills.
