About the Role
The Senior Manager, Accounting will lead and oversee the property accounting function for a complex portfolio of commercial real estate assets. This role involves managing a team of professionals, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining effective internal controls, and driving operational excellence to support the company's business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and lead the property accounting team through coaching, training, and performance reviews.
- Manage property accounting for a complex portfolio, including joint ventures and retail/shared facilities.
- Review monthly property financial statements, journal entries, and recovery reconciliations.
- Perform detailed revenue, balance sheet, and NOI/SANOI/FFO/AFFO analysis.
- Prepare financial data for quarterly statements and MD&A.
- Coordinate internal control audits and annual CAM statement audits.
- Liaise with external auditors regarding financial queries.
- Lead the annual budget process and review consolidated budget schedules.
- Improve accounting processes and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Establish annual department goals and objectives.
- Participate in ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of property accounting experience in a commercial/retail real estate company.
- At least 5 years of managerial or supervisory experience.
- Experience in budgeting, full-cycle accounting, and lease terminology.
- University degree in accounting or finance.
- Professional Accounting Designation (CPA).
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, or JD Edwards.
- Advanced skills in MS Excel and knowledge of MS Word.
- Strong strategic planning, financial leadership, and business partnering skills.
