About the Role

The Surgical Scrub Technician is a vital member of the surgical team, collaborating with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, and RNs to deliver patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures while maintaining strict compliance and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform surgical scrub technician duties throughout the surgical case.
  • Manage instrumentation and equipment during procedures.
  • Assemble supplies, equipment, and instruments based on physician preference cards.
  • Attend safety training and adhere to general and job-specific safety protocols.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain instruments and equipment.
  • Maintain adequate operating room supplies and manage inventory.
  • Update instrument tray lists and surgeon preference cards.
  • Follow exposure control plans for bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Report and address breaks in sterile technique according to policy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for sterilization records and logs.
  • Adhere to company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, and Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain regular and dependable attendance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Five or more years of surgical scrub tech experience in an ASC or OR environment if uncertified.
  • One or more years of surgical scrub tech experience in an ASC or OR environment if certified.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program, OR hold a certified surgical technology credential (NBSTSA or equivalent), OR completion of military surgical technology training.
  • Current AHA-approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
  • Maintain CPR certification throughout employment.
  • Complete annual continuing education requirements.

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical procedures and regulations.
  • Mathematical skills including fractions, percentages, and ratios.
  • Computer proficiency including MS Windows and MS Office.
  • Experience with EMR, database, spreadsheet, and scheduling software.
  • Medical terminology knowledge.
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Time management and prioritization.

Work Type

  • Full-time
  • Monday through Friday
  • As needed basis

Experience Level

  • 1+ years with certification
  • 5+ years without certification

Education Level
