About the Role

The Head Coach is responsible for coaching, character development, and providing direction to student athletes, fostering skill development, discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork. This is a seasonal, temporary role reporting to the Athletic Director.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct the assigned team.
• Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
• Ensure team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of athletes are communicated and followed.
• Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the sports program, informing the Athletic Department and participants of final selections.
• Consult with the Athletic Director regarding off-season training programs, including scheduling summer camps/practices, uniform fitting, and pre-post tryout parent meetings.
• Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Supervise athletes at all times during practices, transport to games, games, and until picked up by guardians or arrangements are made for public transportation.
• Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards opposing teams, fans, parents, officials, spectators, and the community.

Requirements

• 2 to 3 years of High School or Club Soccer coaching experience required.
• Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage.
• Safe driving record (will be asked to provide a DMV report).
• Ability to follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of KIPP SFCP.
• Familiarity with the rules and regulations of the sports assigned to coach.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, and community members.
• Ability to manage a class in a professional manner.
• Access to reliable transportation throughout the Bay Area.
• Ability to work independently and within a small team.
• Ability to coach athletes of different skill levels.
• Complete required safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention available through SafeSchools and NFHS Learn.
• Complete mandated reporter, bloodborne pathogens, concussion in sports, sudden cardiac arrest, and heat illness prevention training annually.
• Complete CPR and First Aid training every two years.
• Complete Fundamentals of Coaching or a certificate of completion in a previous sports season at time of hire.
