About the Role

Coaches are actively engaged in the San Francisco Bayview Hunters Point community, embracing the mission and values of KIPP San Francisco College Preparatory. The Head Coach is responsible for coaching, character development, and providing direction to student athletes to achieve a high level of skill and an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and direct the assigned team.
• Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team development.
• Ensure team rules and regulations regarding conduct and eligibility of athletes are clearly communicated and followed.
• Plan, organize, advertise, and conduct tryouts for the sports program; inform the Athletic Department and participants of final selections.
• Consult with the Athletic Director regarding off-season training programs, including scheduling dates for summer camps/practices, uniform fitting, and pre-post tryout informational parent meetings.
• Create a safe environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
• Supervise athletes at all times during practices, transport to games, games, and until athletes have been picked up by guardians, or make arrangements to ride public transportation.
• Model good sportsmanship behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards the opposing team, fans, parents, officials, spectators, and community.

Requirements

• 2 to 3 years of High School or Club Volleyball coaching experience required.
• High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree preferred).
• Valid CA license (Class C) and current insurance coverage.
• Safe driving record (will be asked to provide a DMV report).
• Ability to follow and uphold the policies and mission statement of KIPP SFCP.
• Familiarity with the rules and regulations of the sports assigned to coach.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, administrators, students, parents, and community members.
• Ability to manage a class in a professional manner.
• Flexible, reliable, punctual, professional, and enthusiastic approach.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively via email and phone.
• Access to reliable transportation throughout the Bay Area.
• Ability to work independently and within a small team.
• Ability to coach athletes of different skill levels.
• Complete required safety training for basic first aid and injury prevention available through SafeSchools and NFHS Learn.
• Complete mandated reporter, bloodborne pathogens, concussion in sports, sudden cardiac arrest, and heat illness prevention training annually.
• Complete CPR and First Aid training every two years.
• Complete Fundamentals of Coaching or certificate of completion in a previous sports season at time of hire.
• Ability to navigate office and school campuses, and hold meetings in different spaces.
• Ability to access and utilize technology.
• Occasional lifting/carrying of equipment 20 - 40 lbs.
• Ability to analyze problems and generate alternatives.
• Ability to work with interruptions.
• Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
• Ability to read, calculate, and perform routine math problems.
• Ability to memorize and recall objects and people.
