About the Role

The Senior Systems Engineer will ensure the seamless integration of mechanical, electrical, software, perception, and safety subsystems for autonomous construction robotics. This foundational role involves defining systems engineering processes, managing interfaces, assessing risks, and bridging the gap between technical execution and business priorities in a hands-on, hardware-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own system-level architecture across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.
  • Establish systems engineering practices and processes for converting customer requirements into functional requirements.
  • Write and maintain requirements and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Lead trade studies regarding cost, performance, complexity, and time-to-ship.
  • Drive hazard analysis and risk assessment for robots operating in active job sites.
  • Translate field data and deployment feedback into concrete design changes.
  • Lead design reviews and root-cause investigations.
  • Act as the connective tissue between engineering execution and business priorities.
  • Mentor engineers on systems thinking.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Systems Engineering experience in robotics, aerospace, automotive, heavy machinery, or similar multidisciplinary systems.
  • Proven track record of owning system-level integration and architecture end-to-end.
  • Experience managing integration challenges and refining requirements or interfaces accordingly.
  • Ability to set up and adapt systems engineering workflows for a fast-moving startup.
  • Expert-level requirements authoring, traceability management, and interface definition.
  • Working knowledge of safety standards such as ISO 13849, IEC 61508, or ANSI/RIA R15.06.
  • Experience translating field or customer feedback into system design changes.
  • Clear communication skills across engineering, leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Bias for action and ability to build processes from scratch.
