About the Role

Optometric Technicians collaborate with doctors to provide patient care, conduct pre-testing and specialty testing, and manage appointment schedules to ensure a professional and positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preliminary patient evaluations including dilation, topical medications, and diagnostic tests.
  • Conduct verbal interviews with patients to gather medical history and reasons for visit.
  • Enter patient information into Electronic Health Records (EEHR).
  • Assist doctors in providing timely and effective patient care.
  • Instruct patients on prescribed medical care and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Discuss Lasik options with patients and identify interested individuals.
  • Schedule referral appointments and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain patient records in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding medication and treatment, referring to the doctor as needed.
  • Complete proper coding of procedures for payment collection.
  • Perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment such as OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, and Retinal Camera.
  • Correspond with doctor offices regarding patient and insurance referrals.
  • Support doctors with patient education as instructed.
  • Document medical findings and patient-doctor communications in Electronic Medical Records.
  • Participate in practice meetings and projects.
  • Ensure maximum doctor utilization through appointment confirmations and patient outreach.
  • Reschedule no-show or cancelled appointments.
  • Conduct contact lens insertion and removal classes and manage contact lens inventory.
  • Perform end-of-day responsibilities including schedule wrap-up and checklist completion.
  • Recommend efficiencies, processes, and improvements for quality, cost savings, or profitability.
  • Perform other duties as requested and as time allows.

Requirements

  • High School or GED qualification.
  • Entry-level PC skills including MS Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and exchange information.
  • Ability to utilize equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Ability to move about the office.
