About the Role

The Research & Knowledge Supervisor will oversee New York and Wilmington Research & Knowledge Services (R&KS) analysts, collaborating with management on administrative tasks, training, and performance evaluations. This role involves providing high-level legal and business research support, managing workflow, and ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely information to attorneys across the firm.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise New York and Wilmington R&KS analysts across all shifts
  • Collaborate with the Senior R&KS Manager on evaluations, interviewing, onboarding, and administrative tasks
  • Provide legal, business, and reference information to attorneys using online and print resources
  • Develop information networks within and outside the firm
  • Monitor research requests during and outside of office hours
  • Communicate departmental guidelines and procedures
  • Delegate work to research analysts and monitor request distribution via workflow software
  • Mentor and train research analysts
  • Provide detailed work performance assessments for annual evaluations
  • Use Generative AI and workflow tools to analyze workload trends
  • Participate in disciplinary procedures in collaboration with HR and management
  • Resolve work-related problems and conflicts among analysts
  • Educate attorneys and staff on R&KS services and keep them informed of practice area developments
  • Contribute to the organization of research materials and conduct department orientations
  • Evaluate new and updated information resources
  • Manage department projects, day-to-day operations, and long-range planning
  • Review research responses for quality and provide real-time coaching
  • Manage scheduling, weekend/holiday coordination, and onboarding logistics
  • Serve as the first-level escalation point for operational issues

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of legal and business research databases including Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, and others
  • Highly proficient in R&KS specific applications and workflow systems
  • Expert proficiency in internet research and social networking/collaboration tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of professional library science principles and law firm operations
  • Knowledge of standard secondary research sources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, organizational, and planning skills
  • Ability to supervise others and administer firm policies
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, shifting priorities, and sensitive matters
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to adjust hours to meet business needs
  • Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalent experience (minimum four years)
  • Minimum of six years related experience in a legal or corporate information center
  • Minimum of two years supervisory or leadership experience
