About the Role
Arcadis is seeking a Senior Wet Utility Designer to join our fast-growing Utilities team in West Toronto. This is a leadership opportunity to contribute to large-scale transportation projects while leveraging your expertise in utility design and coordination. In this role, you will lead the preparation of detailed design drawings for wet utilities (storm, sanitary, and watermain), and guide multi-disciplinary projects, including civil, highways, and transit/rail infrastructure in the GTA. You will also mentor junior staff, manage complex designs, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Lead utility designs for MTO/Metrolinx and municipal projects.
- Prepare and review preliminary and detailed utility design drawings, reports, and memos.
- Design temporary and permanent relocations of utilities, including watermain, sanitary/storm sewers, gas, electricity, and telecommunications.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulations.
- Coordinate with project teams, clients, contractors, and third-party utility stakeholders.
- Evaluate technical alternatives and resolve complex technical issues.
- Interface with other disciplines.
- Develop preliminary designs using CAD tools (e.g., Bentley, Autodesk) for wet and dry utilities.
- Design utility protection and relocation plans across concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases.
- Mentor junior staff and foster their professional development.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- 8+ years of experience on large, complex transit/transportation projects with increasing levels of responsibility.
- P.Eng. designation (or eligibility for designation).
- Proficiency with CAD tools (MicroStation, Inroads/OpenRoads, or AutoCAD Civil 3D) related to sewers and watermain.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with sewer and watermain design calculation and modelling tools such as Infoworks, EPANET, Infoworks etc.
- Knowledge of permits, licenses and approval procedures for utilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead multi-disciplinary teams.
