About the Role

The Connected Building Analyst supports project sales and optimization teams by analyzing HVAC, BAS, and utility data to identify and validate energy-saving opportunities. This role quantifies savings, supports proposals, ensures alignment with industry standards, and identifies operational improvements across commercial HVAC systems, serving as a critical liaison.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Project Sales Representatives to validate energy conservation measures (ECMs)
  • Analyze BAS trends, runtime data, and equipment performance
  • Quantify projected energy savings and cost avoidance
  • Develop simple payback and ROI calculations
  • Support proposal development with technical narratives and data visuals
  • Review and interpret client utility bills (electric, gas, demand structures)
  • Perform baseline and weather-normalized energy analysis
  • Identify rebate eligibility (e.g., Duke Energy, Georgia Power, local programs)
  • Assist with rebate documentation and savings calculations
  • Work with Optimization Specialists to identify operational deficiencies
  • Evaluate system-level inefficiencies (static pressure, economizers, schedules, ventilation strategies)
  • Apply industry standards and best practices to uncover project opportunities
  • Support continuous commissioning efforts

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in HVAC systems, building automation, energy engineering, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC system operation and sequences of operation
  • Ability to analyze building automation system (BAS) data, trend logs, and equipment performance
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting utility bills, including electric, gas, and rate structures
  • Working knowledge of energy savings calculations, simple payback, and ROI
  • Strong analytical skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and support customers in understanding building performance and energy‑saving opportunities
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong customer service mindset and professional demeanor
  • Knowledge of general job site safety practices and standards
  • Strong understanding of commercial HVAC systems (RTUs, AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, pumps)
  • Ability to interpret BAS data and sequences of operation
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry standards such as ASHRAE guidelines
  • Evaluate system performance against design intent and operational best practices
  • Experience with Niagara N4 or similar building automation platforms
  • Familiarity with utility rebate and incentive programs (e.g., Duke Energy, Georgia Power, or local utilities)
  • Experience supporting project sales efforts or capital project development
  • Working knowledge of industry standards and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE guidelines)
  • Proficiency with additional Microsoft tools such as Visio, Project, and Power BI
  • Experience mentoring or supporting entry‑level team members
  • Ability to translate technical HVAC, BAS, and energy data into clear visuals and narratives for internal teams and customers
  • Familiarity with basic measurement and verification (M&V) and energy savings validation concepts
  • Exposure to building analytics, fault detection, or continuous commissioning concepts
  • Strong collaboration skills across sales, operations, and customer stakeholders
  • Understanding of energy efficiency and sustainability principles in commercial buildings
  • Experience with data visualization or advanced Excel techniques preferred
