About the Role
As the first dedicated Talent Specialist, you will play a key role in transforming how we attract, hire, and onboard exceptional talent. You will own full-cycle recruitment for a portfolio of roles while acting as the primary partner to our external recruitment partners, helping to strengthen relationships, improve hiring processes, and deliver an exceptional experience for both candidates and hiring managers. Beyond recruitment, you will own the candidate journey from offer acceptance through onboarding and the first 90 days of employment.
Responsibilities
- Own full-cycle recruitment for a portfolio of roles across the organization.
- Partner with hiring managers to understand business needs, develop recruitment strategies, source talent, coordinate interviews, prepare offers, and guide candidates through every stage of the hiring process.
- Build strong relationships with hiring managers, helping them define hiring needs, prepare for interviews, evaluate talent, and make informed hiring decisions.
- Provide thoughtful recommendations that align with illumin's values, business goals, and long-term talent needs.
- Become the primary point of contact for external recruitment agencies, building strong relationships, coordinating searches, monitoring performance, and ensuring agencies consistently deliver high-quality candidates.
- Identify opportunities to improve our hiring process with external agencies.
- Understand that every interaction shapes our employer brand.
- Proactively communicate and keep candidates informed throughout the hiring process.
- Create a positive, professional experience for all candidates.
- Become the primary point of contact for new hires once an offer is accepted.
- Coordinate background checks, employment documentation, onboarding logistics, and equipment requests.
- Ensure a seamless first day for new hires.
- Partner with hiring managers to develop onboarding plans and coordinate orientation activities.
- Conduct 30-, 60-, and 90-day check-ins to gather feedback and help new employees integrate into the business.
- Identify opportunities to streamline recruitment processes, improve onboarding, strengthen our employer brand, and build scalable talent acquisition practices.
- Proactively develop talent pipelines for future hiring needs.
- Leverage LinkedIn and other sourcing tools.
- Build relationships with post-secondary institutions.
- Support internship and early-career hiring initiatives.
- Contribute to employer branding and career page enhancements.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in talent acquisition, recruitment, or a related role.
- Experience managing full-cycle recruitment across multiple positions simultaneously.
- Experience building strong relationships with hiring managers and becoming a trusted partner.
- Experience sourcing candidates, conducting phone screens, coordinating interviews, extending offers, and managing candidates through the entire recruitment lifecycle.
- Experience working with external recruitment agencies or other hiring partners.
- Ability to build productive relationships and keep searches moving efficiently.
- Ability to manage multiple searches and deadlines while keeping candidates informed and hiring managers supported.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and balance competing deadlines without sacrificing attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Comfortable learning new technologies.
- Experience working with an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
