About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our growing civil engineering team. This role is ideal for a committed and ambitious professional with strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and commercial awareness, capable of contributing to the growth of a high-performance team.
Responsibilities
- Establish and implement project plans for allocated work packages.
- Manage and maintain forecasts, cost, and revenue budgets.
- Document and manage all fee, programme, and scope changes.
- Ensure delivery of project outcomes on time, within budget, and to client specifications.
- Coordinate between design and construction teams to ensure timely information flow.
- Maintain strong relationships with external parties.
- Implement systems for cost-effective, high-quality, safe, and environmentally responsible design and construction.
- Monitor design development progress against budgets and programmes.
- Develop and maintain resource allocation plans.
- Liaise with other Design Managers to balance portfolio resources.
- Apply project controls, risk assessment, and HAZOP analysis.
- Liaise with construction and procurement teams to meet delivery objectives.
- Support the Bid Manager with tender preparation.
- Support construction teams throughout the construction process.
- Develop and review design management documentation.
- Prepare monthly progress reports and chair design progress meetings.
- Support stakeholder management teams.
- Implement innovative and value-for-money design delivery solutions.
- Progress projects through preliminary and detailed design phases.
- Liaise with clients to communicate requirements effectively.
- Coordinate UK and overseas multi-disciplinary design teams.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental legislation, including CDM Regulations.
- Supervise team members, including APMs, Graduates, and Apprentices.
- Assist with contract preparation, project planning, and programming.
- Perform project administration, including monitoring delivery, resources, and budgets.
- Manage and respond to project-related correspondence.
- Support procurement in the appointment of contractors.
- Ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System.
- Assist and support the Engineering Manager.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in a relevant discipline.
- Experience managing the coordination of multidisciplinary teams on major infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing design delivery programmes and budgets.
- Broad design engineering experience on infrastructure projects.
- Good understanding of CDM regulations.
- NEC3 contract experience.
- Professional Institution membership.
