About the Role
We are looking for a Senior Virtual Desktop (Horizon) Engineer to operate, improve, and evolve a large-scale enterprise VMware Horizon environment. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role with strong emphasis on platform automation, repeatability, and data-driven decision making. You will be responsible for keeping the platform stable and improving its operation over time through automation, standardization, and evidence-based optimization.
Responsibilities
- Operate and support production VMware Horizon (Omnissa) environments
- Own and execute Horizon platform upgrades (agents, pods, components) with minimal user impact
- Troubleshoot and remediate performance, stability, and user-experience issues using metrics and evidence
- Diagnose and resolve authentication and login-related issues (AD, GPOs, certificates, SSO, MFA integrations)
- Design and implement automation and repeatable processes using PowerShell, APIs, and infrastructure-as-code principles
- Use monitoring and operational data to drive capacity planning, tuning, and remediation decisions
- Work closely with infrastructure, networking, and security teams on cross-domain issues and improvements
- Analyze and address resource contention across compute, memory, storage, network, and vGPU
- Participate in remediation initiatives related to performance degradation, login latency, session instability, and user-impacting incidents
- Continuously reduce manual operational effort through scripting, standardization, and platform improvements
Requirements
- 7+ years of real production experience as a senior Horizon engineer
- Comfortable taking ownership of both technical outcomes and operational quality
- Bring automation and infrastructure-as-code thinking to improve reliability and consistency
- Troubleshoot, optimize, and justify changes with data
- Execution-focused with a strong bias toward fixing root causes instead of symptoms
- Stay calm and methodical under pressure, especially during incidents
- Communicate clearly, explaining technical decisions with evidence and impact
