About the Role

Macaulay is seeking Supply Early Childhood Assistants (ECAs) to join their agency. Supply staff will cover various shifts at all twenty-two centres and assist in implementing programming that supports the healthy physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth of children. Responsibilities

  • Supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Maintain equipment and the physical environment, ensuring it is free of safety or health hazards.
  • Assist with planning, executing, and evaluating daily programming according to agency curriculum and approach.
  • Encourage active learning to build self-esteem in an inclusive and respectful environment.
  • Facilitate planned and spontaneous experiences.
  • Observe children's strengths, challenges, emerging skills, and interests.
  • Collaborate with the team to implement inclusive program plans.
  • Record observations to support early identification of a child’s individual needs.
  • Demonstrate positive adult/child interactions and effective communication.
  • Promote children’s independence and problem-solving skills.
  • Build children’s confidence and assist them in understanding and dealing with the consequences of their behavior.
  • Model mutual respect and kindness.
  • Communicate sensitively and appropriately with parents/families, providing feedback on their child’s learning and development.
  • Participate in classroom set-up, including play areas.
  • Work with the team to manage children’s medication schedule and allergies.
  • Drop off and/or pick up children from buses outside the Centre (if applicable/required).
  • Serve and clean up lunches, prepare snacks, and maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as assigned/as needed.
  • Work in compliance with the Child Care and Early Years Act, Toronto Children’s Early Learning and Care Assessment for Quality Improvement (AQI), Toronto Public Health guidelines, Canada’s Food Guide, the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Smoke Free Ontario Act, and all other applicable regulations and laws.
  • Perform other delegated or assigned tasks.
  • Assist in emergencies according to Macaulay Policy and Procedures.
  • Comply with all Macaulay policies, practices, and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an Early Childhood Assistant program or have equivalent experience working with families and children, including those with special needs.
  • Understanding of ELECT, the Child Care and Early Years Act, How Does Learning Happen, experience with Play Based curriculum, and/or the Toronto Assessment for Quality Improvement is a definite asset.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and excellent listening skills.
  • Computer literacy required, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and email.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues, and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and identities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language is a definite asset.
  • Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check completed within the last 6 months.
  • Appropriate immunization and medical records.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C training.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to work various shifts.
