About the Role
The RCC Operating Technologist remotely operates Building Automation Systems (BAS) in BGIS-managed client facilities. Responsibilities include implementing operator-level control changes, reviewing trend data, optimizing energy and operations, and coordinating corrective actions for complex issues. Availability for rotational shifts, on-call duties, and after-hours/weekend emergency response is required.
Responsibilities
- Works with building operators and site managers to identify operational and energy savings in BAS operations.
- Develops recommendations for BAS system changes and implements approved changes, coordinating with contractors and BAS vendors for programming and remote portal development.
- Provides input to Project Teams and/or BAS Vendors on scope and remote portal requirements.
- Performs commissioning inspections to transition projects from installation to ongoing operation.
- Responds to demand service requests for BAS/Control related issues to diagnose and rectify.
- Provides remote technical support to on-site technician teams via phone support system.
- Monitors alarms and dispatches work orders for Critical/High priority alerts.
- Optimizes facility uptime and asset integrity of assigned facilities.
- Monitors system performance and fault events, performing corrective and demand service maintenance on BAS to achieve facility uptime, uninterrupted client operations, occupant comfort, asset integrity, and energy/operating cost objectives.
- Coordinates maintenance repairs and implements temporary overrides to minimize impact while awaiting services.
- Addresses frequent failures with site teams and vendors, identifying, recording, and escalating deficiencies, and maintaining related documentation.
- Ensures remote platforms are up to date.
- Receives, actions, tracks, monitors, and reports status of maintenance and repair work within the work order management system, including progress and resolution notes.
- Uploads up-to-date installation documents obtained from installation teams and BAS vendors to the BAS after upgrades.
- Performs work in accordance with established processes and practices.
- Complies with all internal and external requirements, including environmental and health and safety.
- Trains junior operator team members on daily operations processes and troubleshooting as required.
- Provides observations about facility building automation equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies, and suggests enhancements and repairs.
- Assists in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction.
- Maintains positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and delivered.
- Records resolution data within the service maintenance management database.
- Ensures work completed meets quality, contract response, and all other requirements.
- Receives, tracks, monitors, and reports status of maintenance and repair work within the service maintenance management database.
- Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of required work.
- Participates in and assists with facility-related projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be available to work rotational shifts during business hours, be on-call, and be available after hours and weekends to respond to emergencies.

- Occasional extended hours.
- Must be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs as they arise.
Skills
- Remote BAS operation for multiple facilities (3 years)
- Demonstrated proficiency with BAS navigation, data-trend setting and extractions, trouble shooting (3 years)
- Medium to advance skills in word processing and spreadsheet data manipulation and analysis tools (5 years)
- Familiar with integration concepts and platforms such as BACnet systems (1 year)
- Good knowledge of optimization and energy management strategy for BAS (3 years)
- Strong ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance (3 years)
- Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency (3 years)
- Effective communication skills for the purpose of data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification (3 years)
- College Diploma in a related discipline
- BAS or Building Operations courses (Asset)
- Operational experience in fault detection platform (Asset)
- Mentoring skills required to support Junior BAS Operator development (Asset)
- Programming, coding, on-site installation and/or maintenance of BAS (Asset)
- Bilingualism (Asset)
- Valid driver’s license (Asset)
