About the Role
The Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and optimization of all building systems at The Travis, a premier 50-story luxury high-rise. This role ensures efficient and safe operation of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems, requiring strong technical knowledge and a proactive approach to maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all major building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and building automation systems (BMS)
- Monitor and maintain equipment such as chillers, boilers, pumps, and domestic water systems
- Complete service requests promptly and professionally
- Perform routine inspections of mechanical rooms, equipment, and common areas
- Execute preventative maintenance programs
- Maintain accurate service logs, equipment records, and compliance documentation
- Assist with system testing, commissioning, and ongoing performance optimization
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and control operating costs
- Coordinate and oversee vendors and contractors
- Support capital projects, system upgrades, and ongoing building improvements
- Manage inventory and ordering of maintenance supplies
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable local and state regulations
- Support fire and life safety systems, including inspections, testing, and documentation
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
- Work closely with onsite leadership to prioritize service requests and operational needs
- Support team training and share technical knowledge
- Participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours maintenance and emergencies
Requirements
- 5–7+ years of experience in multifamily building maintenance, preferably in a high-rise environment
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems
- Experience with BMS preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents
- EPA certification required (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- CPO or additional certifications preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
- Trade school or technical training preferred; degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field is a plus
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment, including power tools, ladders, and lifts
- Basic computer proficiency, including use of work order systems and standard office equipment
- Ability to walk, climb, lift, and access all areas of a high-rise building
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently and heavier with assistance
- Comfortable working in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of a background check and drug screening
