About the Role

As one of Ontario’s public safety regulators, TSSA administers safety regulations and enhances public safety across multiple sectors. Inspectors make a difference for Ontarians every day by connecting with regulated parties and helping them meet safety requirements through expertise and education initiatives. Your work builds trust, enhances compliance and strengthens the systems that keep people safe, with a direct impact on public safety across the province, supported by a professional, collaborative, purpose-driven team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct in-service and periodic inspections of boilers, pressure vessels, piping systems, and related equipment to confirm compliance with the Technical Standards and Safety Act and applicable BPV regulations.
• Investigate BPV-related incidents, equipment failures, and public safety concerns to identify root causes and recommend actions that reduce future risk.
• Exercise Provincial Offences Officer responsibilities by directing regulated parties to correct non-compliance, up to and including ordering cessation of operation when required.
• Evaluate repairs, alterations, on-site fabrication, piping installations, and owner/contractor quality programs to verify alignment with codes, standards, and regulatory expectations.
• Document inspection findings, incident information, and regulatory decisions in TSSA systems to support consistent oversight and evidence-based decision-making.
• Provide clear guidance on BPV codes and standards, helping operators, contractors and engineers understand regulatory requirements and adopt safe practices.

Requirements

• Eligible to write or maintain the Ontario Certificate of Competency and National Board credentials such as In-Service (IS), Authorized Inspector (AI), R, N, C and I endorsements, as required for assigned work.
• Able to obtain and maintain Nuclear Energy Worker status when nuclear inspections apply.
• Minimum of five years of relevant BPV-industry experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Technical Standards and Safety Act, BPV Regulation, Operating Engineers Regulation, and applicable CSA, ASME, and National Board Codes.
• Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills when performing inspections, conducting incident investigations, reviewing repairs/alterations, and assessing piping or OE plant operations.
• Proficiency in MS Office and business systems to maintain inspection records, prepare reports, and support consistent regulatory oversight.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate technical and regulatory information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
• Daily travel required.
• Possession of a valid Ontario Class G driver's license and a driving record suitable for fieldwork are essential.
