About the Role
As a key member of the Service team, the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Foreman plays a vital role in keeping our rental fleet and customer equipment operating safely, reliably, and effectively. This role involves leading and mentoring mechanics, providing technical support, and ensuring quality workmanship.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with the service manager to coordinate tasks and oversee department activities.
- Maintain accurate records of repair times and quality of work.
- Review work orders and parts requests to ensure repairs meet quality standards.
- Prepare and present accurate repair quotes to customers.
- Lead and mentor mechanics and QA staff through technical support and teaching.
- Act as a technical advisor on major repairs and provide troubleshooting support.
- Assist mechanics with repairs as needed.
- Ensure technicians meet production goals and expectations.
- Provide daily production, safety, and updated work order reports to the service manager.
- Train, support, and emphasize company initiatives for improving repair and turnaround times.
- Work cross-functionally with other departments for timely repairs and service delivery.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create a supportive and efficient work environment.
- Follow all workplace safety protocols and environmentally sound practices.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
- Ensure team members adhere to safety policies and procedures.
- Help integrate new mechanics into the shop and ensure they follow procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A licensed Heavy Equipment Mechanic (421A, 310T) with strong diagnostic and failure analysis skills.
- Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining a wide range of construction equipment including Genie, Skyjack and CAT.
- Previous supervisory and leadership experience.
- Excellent communication skills and a knack for making customers feel valued.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage daily schedules, coordinate materials and equipment, and monitor inventory.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with Cat systems (ET and SIS would be considered an asset).
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently with excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting regularly up to 50lbs.
- A strong commitment to safe work practices, environmental responsibility, and Battlefield’s health and safety policies.
- A technical understanding of CAT equipment would be considered an asset.
- A Licensed Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Preferred).
- Flexibility to support on-call schedules and adapt to business demands.
- Hydraulic system knowledge.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized shop environment.
- Ownership of personal tools required for the role.
