About the Role

The Assistant Port Engineer is responsible for determining vessel priorities, creating action plans, and ensuring vessels operate and maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and customer expectations. This role involves diagnosing problems and coordinating the timely and efficient repair of machinery and mechanical equipment on American Cruise Lines' vessels and supporting ancillary equipment. The Assistant Port Engineer must be familiar with all vessel machinery, equipment, and systems, and adhere to safety practices to protect personnel, property, and the environment. This position reports directly to the Port Engineer.

Responsibilities

Establish off-season repair and associated project management with the Port Engineer and Director of Engineering.
Schedule and oversee dry-dock events with the Port Engineer.
Ensure the safe repair of all engines, auxiliary machinery, and related systems on vessels and facilities.
Contribute to the safe operation of vessels and equipment.
Respond decisively and effectively to emergency situations.
Maintain familiarity with individual vessel characteristics.
Coordinate after-hours repairs to vessels and related equipment.
Support onboard engineers in conducting repairs during mechanical failures.
Oversee engineers and fleet technicians on the East Coast.
Execute annual and monthly preventative maintenance plans and direct seasonal facilities' support activities.
Utilize computer maintenance programs to monitor and manage work orders.
Balance quality and cost in purchases, following company guidelines for approvals, scope development, bid solicitation, and vendor management.
Ensure vessel fleet availability and reliability.
Visit each ship at least twice a month, including one full ship condition inspection.
Prepare specifications and work orders for maintenance and repair items to maintain vessels and ensure regulatory compliance.
Ensure the Planned Maintenance Program is maintained and followed by all personnel.
Maintain records, including machinery history, parts inventory, and reporting data.
Assist with the maintenance of vessel engines, auxiliary machinery, and related systems when needed.
Diagnose malfunctions and provide recommendations for action to the Port Engineer.
Attend ship maintenance, repair, and assessment events to address logistics, scope, funding, budget, and mission impacts.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and effective manner according to company policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Leadership ability.
Ability to diagnose machinery malfunctions and recommend corrective actions.
Ability to read and understand blueprints and machinery systems' technical manuals.
Ability to work with computer programs including Microsoft Word, Excel, and HelmConnect.
Ability to read and understand repair manuals.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Subject to a background investigation.
Subject to a pre-employment physical.
Ability to frequently traverse stairs, fixed ladders, and ladder-wells while walking ships.
Ability to spend several consecutive days at sea while underway.
Capable of sitting for long periods, standing, walking, crouching, and kneeling.
Ability to reach, handle, and use equipment, keyboards, and mobile devices.
Ability to lift boxes (files and supplies) up to 20 lbs.
