About the Role

The Assistant Coach supports the Director, Swimming & Diving by coaching Cadet-athletes, recruiting, monitoring academic progress, scheduling, managing travel, and overseeing discipline and conduct. This role adheres to the policies and regulations of USMA, AWPAA, the Patriot League, and the NCAA.

Responsibilities

• Promotes the philosophy and objectives of AWPAA, adhering to and enforcing all applicable policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Assists the Director, Swimming & Diving in teaching and instructing Cadet-athletes in sport performance during games, practices, workouts, and conditioning sessions.
• Coaches and instructs student-athletes individually and in groups, demonstrating game techniques and skills.
• Plans and attends coaching and practice sessions, games, and tournaments in accordance with NCAA and conference regulations.
• Develops, recommends, and teaches game strategy.
• Monitors and maintains the discipline and conduct of Cadet-athletes to support the image and reputation of the department and academy.
• Supervises assigned assistant coaches and other support staff, ensuring compliance with rules, policies, and procedures, and providing training and evaluations.
• Plays a significant role in identifying, recruiting, and selecting prospective Cadet-athletes, ensuring compliance with NCAA recruiting rules and initiating academic eligibility processes.
• Recruits quality prospective Cadet-athletes and ensures timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
• Provides a positive educational environment for Cadet-athletes conducive to learning, athletic development, social growth, and preparation for life beyond college.
• Supervises the academic progress of the team in conjunction with the athletic tutoring and advising program, implementing corrective action plans.
• Works to integrate sports into USMA life, complementing the AWPAA and USMA mission within the military community.
• Assists the Director, Swimming & Diving in administering the sport program, including daily practices, game planning, recruiting, equipment management, facilities scheduling, and budget.
• Ensures team travel arrangements comply with USMA, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations, monitoring travel itineraries and coordinating plans.
• Ensures the safety of Cadet-athletes and coaching staff by monitoring the condition of athletics equipment and facilities, and submitting repair requests.
• Performs public relations functions including promotion, fundraising, public speaking, community events, and through camps and/or clinics.
• Serves on departmental committees as requested.
• Assists with departmental needs as requested and voluntarily attends athletic events to promote audience participation and support.
• Participates in approved camps, clinics, exhibitions, and campus activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or 2+ years’ relevant experience.
• Ability to collaborate with coaching staff and support the vision of the Director, Swimming & Diving.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, Cadet-athletes, prospective Cadet-athletes, parents, etc.
• Takes initiative, is hardworking, and possesses the ability/willingness to figure out solutions to problems independently and creatively.
• Extremely organized, detail-oriented, self-starter, and intrinsically motivated.
• Strong management and leadership skills.
• Proven ability to multi-task effectively.
• Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
• Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
