About the Role
The Senior Business Analyst plays a key role in shaping solutions that support underwriting, rating, quoting, binding, and claims management processes across the Hiscox insurance portfolio. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings strong insurance domain knowledge—especially in small commercial or specialty lines—and has a proven track record of driving business and technology alignment. You’ll work cross-functionally with underwriting, claims, operations, and technology teams to deliver practical, scalable solutions that support business goals and improve the end-to-end customer and agent experience.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a lead analyst on initiatives involving underwriting, rate/quote/bind workflows, policy lifecycle changes, and claims enhancements.
- Elicit, analyze, and document detailed business and functional requirements through stakeholder interviews, workshops, and data analysis.
- Map and evaluate current state business processes; identify opportunities for improvement and define optimized future-state workflows.
- Partner with product owners, architects, and developers to shape viable solutions and ensure technical delivery aligns with business needs.
- Support development and testing teams through story refinement, acceptance criteria, and defect triage.
- Act as a bridge between business users and technical teams to ensure mutual understanding and successful delivery.
- Translate complex business needs into clear and actionable artifacts (e.g., process flows, data mapping, user stories, BRDs).
- Facilitate solution design discussions, prioritization workshops, and backlog grooming sessions.
- Apply deep knowledge of P&C insurance operations, with a focus on rate, quote, bind, endorsement, renewal, and claims processes.
- Bring working knowledge of rating engines, policy administration systems, and claims platforms (e.g., Duck Creek, Guidewire, Majesco, or similar).
- Stay informed of regulatory and compliance considerations that impact underwriting and claims.
Requirements
- 5+ years of business analysis experience in the Property & Casualty insurance industry, preferably with direct exposure to small commercial, specialty, or personal lines.
- Demonstrated experience supporting rate/quote/bind processes and claims lifecycle initiatives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and business context.
- Proficient in creating process maps, use cases, user stories, data dictionaries, and functional specs.
- Experience with Agile and hybrid delivery methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
