About the Role

The National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program at Leidos is seeking a Drafting Engineer to provide support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Central Service Area - Engineering Services Group located in the FAA’s Jamaica New York Office. The candidate will support the FAA’s Engineering Services team by applying broad experience and advanced technical knowledge on multiple, varying, and complex assignments. It is necessary to plan, coordinate and perform work with a high degree of independence, while keeping the Project Engineer advised of significant problem areas.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Engineering Center for project engineering packages by developing site-specific project plans and specifications for FAA approval.
  • Perform site surveys to collect project data and research all applicable standards, construction codes, and ordinances.
  • Provide analysis, recommendations, and solutions to issues identified during site surveys.
  • Prepare summary trip reports including compiled project documents such as scope of work, drawing and specification lists, and risk management checklists.
  • Furnish information required for the preparation of Purchase Requests (PR) and NAS Change Proposals (NCP) for assigned projects.
  • Prepare Airspace case documents.
  • Assess engineering impacts on Environmental & Safety Compliance Program Project checklists.
  • Prepare drawings and specifications.
  • Develop engineering cost estimates for project plans per FAA standards/guidelines.
  • Provide estimated completion time and project schedules.
  • Provide technical engineering support for all phases of assigned new construction and renovation projects, including evaluating shop drawings and design proposals.
  • Participate in Joint Acceptance Inspections (JAI) and Contractor Acceptance Inspections (CAI) and provide recommended resolutions.
  • Perform engineering studies for feasibility and cost versus benefit.
  • Develop project drawings in accordance with FAA standards/guidelines.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Engineering disciplines of Civil, Electrical, Architect.
  • 2-4 years’ experience.
  • Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements.
  • Building Envelop Design experience.
  • Ability to Obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
  • Ability to Travel up to 10%.

Skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD/MicroStation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites.
