About the Role

Alstom is seeking a skilled C - Arc Welder CBS to perform all welding operations for rail vehicle manufacturing. This role requires the ability to operate and set up various welding machines with minimal supervision and a strong understanding of material properties and welding techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all welding operations for rail vehicle manufacturing.
  • Operate and learn all welding machines including GMAW, GTAW, and Resistance Spot Welders.
  • Set up welding machines with minimal to no supervision or guidance.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of material properties, methods, and basic set-up, verification, adjustment, and operation of welding equipment and hand tools (grinding and cutting).
  • Read blueprints or work instructions, set up jigs and fixtures, and comprehend associated welding symbols and welding sequence.
  • Safely use a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Work in a safe manner compliant with all Alstom Zero Deviation Procedures and Environmental, Health and Safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Weld different types of materials (e.g., carbon steel, stainless steel) and pass applicable welder evaluation Level C tests.
  • Effectively communicate with Supervision, Level A welders, Engineering Department, and the Quality Department discussing design or material changes.
  • Be adaptable, accepting different work assignments and maintaining a clean working environment.
  • Listen, learn, and comprehend from experienced welders to achieve all company and customer requirements.
  • Assist in new process development and troubleshooting of products.
  • Utilize digital technology in day-to-day work responsibilities.
  • Obtain or possess external certifications AWS/ANST or equivalent.
  • Inspect arc or spot welded weldments per the appropriate acceptance criteria and perform dimensional measurements to ensure conformance with specification.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge in other welding processes such as SMAW & FCAW.
  • Apply knowledge of post weld finishing technology & tools (Graining SS/passivation/straightening) and ability to learn and comprehend.
  • Possess acceptable hand/eye coordination and ability to pass visual acuity test.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of non-destructive testing (e.g., dye-penetrant, magnetic particle) or equivalent certification.
  • Perform any other assigned responsibilities as directed by supervisor/manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, 2 year vocational degree or equivalent welding certificate with experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience required.
  • Proficiency with automatic/hand operated burning equipment.
  • Proficiency with welding processes & machines GMAW / GTAW.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Understanding of weld symbols.
  • Proficiency with hand/power tools.
  • Adaptability.
  • Customer focus.
  • Ability to accept feedback and apply it.
  • Ability to offer feedback to leadership.
  • Ability to cascade given feedback to other team members.
  • Experience with fabrication and application of jigs/Mechanical Principles.
